“Miami is a creative Mecca. Rich with bright, bold, weird art thanks to the artists who make it. We’re here to put that weirdness center-stage. ” – Nate Long, Pew Pew Director
Pew Pew is a New York-based community of artists, performers, and designers who love to celebrate the surreal and explore the limits of the imagination. Originating from a loft on New York’s Lower East Side, the collective’s co-founders were tired of the city’s typical club scene and sought to redefine nightlife through experiences that blend music, art, immersive theater, and the omnipresent element of surprise.
After curating takeovers of prominent New York venues and even a private island in Bermuda, Pew Pew will host its Miami Pop-Up residency at The Oasis at Magic City from Thursday, April 7-Sunday, May 1.
New York Times contributor Alix Strauss called Pew Pew’s events “a new kind of nightlife, where the audience is part of the show.” She went on to describe the eccentric, performance-fueled event as “a scene that’s half Alice in Wonderland, half Burning Man.”
Pew Pew’s home for the creatively curious has announced their multifaceted schedule of events at the retrofitted 6,000 square foot venue, which includes a collaborative soiree with Brooklyn-based nightclub House of Yes, Sunday disco pool parties, 50+ DJs, immersive theater performances, art installations, wellness workshops, surprises, and more.
Internationally recognized nightclub House of Yes, which prides itself on its nightlife spectacles and culture of respect and consent, is partnering with Pew Pew’s Miami Pop-Up to celebrate Miami PRIDE in glamorous fashion on Saturday, April 9. The collaborative party will showcase Grammy- winning DJ icon Louie Vega, one of New York’s finest board masters Eli Escobar, local Miami talents Nii Tei and Eveava’s DJ duo project Djembe, and renowned underground house DJ and Prisma Artists label-head Inbal.
Every Friday night, attendees can revel in Pew Pew Spectacular! events, kicking off with the grand opening on Friday, April 8 headlined by Tiësto-championed DJ Dark Heart. Other DJs who will soundtrack the weekly Pew Pew Spectacular! dance parties include South African duo Goldfish who will perform a special live set and Miami’s own Dude Skywalker. The final Friday of the residency will be a collaborative effort alongside local cultural vanguards Secret Garden headlined by Detroit techno legend Stacey Pullen.
Pew Pew Spectacular! events will also feature silk aerialists like Stephanie Chisholm, fire eaters, roller-skating painters, drag queens, burlesque dancers, neon artists, a butt kissing booth, a sultry space with rotary phones hosting seductive secrets on the other line called “Talk Dirty To Me, ”and even a secret motel within the party, all culminating in dance-fueled DJ sets to cap off the night.
Similarly, Retro-Surrealist Dream on Saturday, April 16 will mix the sounds of genre-shifting musician TÂCHES and soulful Miami-based DJ Katie Ox with immersive projection art and installations from creative polymaths like Ali Khemi, FaithFetish, Alex Nero, and more.
Fueled by the goal of uplifting imagination in Miami, Pew Pew has awarded 14 local artists the funds to design and create their own onsite installations, which will act as creative testing grounds for new ideas. Selected beneficiaries include Lindsey Fielding who will present ‘Voyeur Vulnerable,’ a recording/listening booth that acts as a confessional, welcoming participants to embracing vulnerability and release emotionally.
Each night’s programming will be spellbinding and full of surprises; attendees will never know what mysterious treats await.
